Echocardigram In an echocardiogram, a hand-held device is placed on the chest. The device uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce images of the heart’s size, structure and motion. An “echo” provides valuable information about the health of the heart and helps gather information about abnormal rhythms (arrhythmias).
