The Peer Navigator Program
Personal support for people diagnosed with cancer

The Salem Cancer Institute Peer Navigator Program provides support and guidance to our cancer patients through one-on-one counseling with those who have been through it all — the Navigators.

The Navigators are cancer survivors who help patients navigate through the cancer experience in an empowered, positive environment.

We match Navigators with cancer patients as closely as possible by looking at similar diagnosis and treatment plan.

The Navigators are our “real” experts that truly understand what you and your family may be going through — they are here throughout your journey to support you.

Meet the Navigators
The Navigators are community volunteers that have gone through an extensive training program in order to provide you with the most valuable guidance based on their very personal experience.

These volunteers are required to attend an eight-hour training course each year which includes information on :

  • Communication techniques
  • Confidentiality issues
  • Cancer treatment options
  • Respecting differences
  • Stages of loss and grieving
  • Psychosocial issues
  • Problem-solving techniques
  • Medical Oncology
  • Radiation Oncology

To connect with a Peer Navigator, please call 503-562-4321.
