Clinical Trials
Salem Hospital's Clinical Trials Department was created in the 1980's to better serve cancer patients in the Salem and surrounding region. Each year, approximately 4% of all cancer patients are involved in clinical trials at Salem Hospital. Many patients also benefit from orthopedic studies and cardiac studies each year. Salem Hospital's Clinical Trials Department is currently involved with 54 clinical trials.

Clinical Trials at Salem Hospital consists of studies that will benefit cancer patients, orthopedic patients, surgical, and psychiatric patients. An essential part of clinical trials is patient and family information, resources, and assistance when needed. Clinical Trials are conducted under rigid ethical and professional guidelines and are regulated by federal standards.

The Clinical Trials Department features professional staff from a multitude of healthcare disciplines including physicians, registered nurses, clinical research associate and data management.

Clinical Trials
Salem Hospital has one of the most active cancer research programs in Oregon. In fact, the Cancer Research Center has as many clinical trials available as many large University-based teaching hospitals.

For those patients who wish to participate, this local resource provides them access to the latest clinical trials while remaining close to home and under the care of their local cancer specialists.

Cancer Registry
Salem Hospital’s Cancer Registry is one of the oldest in the entire country, with data on cancer trends and treatment experience extending back to 1960.
