Rhythm disturbances (electrophysiology) Electrophysiological studies examine the conduction or electrical system of the heart. The electrical system regulates the heart’s rhythm. The normal heart beats between 60-100 times per minute, at rest throughout our lives. In the majority of people, the heart rhythm stays regular and increases in response to our body’s needs. However, in some people, the heartbeat may become irregular and/or beat too fast or too slow, this is called an arrhythmia.
