Our exceptional open-heart surgery team is led by Thomas Winkler, MD and William Shely, MD of Northwest Surgical Associates and is committed to the highest quality patient care and services.

A coronary artery bypass (CABG) is the most commonly performed open-heart surgery, with more than 425,000 performed annually in the United States(2004). 

A CABG is an operation that is designed to re-route the blood around blockages to prevent a heart attack or sudden death. Conventionally an artery from behind the breast bone, and veins from the legs are used to "bypass" the blood around the coronary artery blockages.
