Regional Team of Professionals

History of Career Exploration at Salem Hospital

The Career Exploration Program was developed at Salem Hospital and West Valley Hospital in the fall of 2002 under the leadership of Laurie Adams-Hain of the Mid-Willamette Education Consortium. Laurie led the collaboration efforts of regional education and healthcare resources in three counties for this project.

The Mid-Willamette Education Consortium’s goal is to improve the academic and experiential components of healthcare education for secondary and post-secondary students.

The hospitals’ goals include being active partners with educational resources in the delivery of comprehensive curriculum to regional students. In so doing, the hospitals are playing a key role in the development of tomorrow’s healthcare workforce.

A Design Team began working with Salem Hospital in early 2003 to have a comprehensive program for students available for fall of that year. The web-based curriculum on this site is part of the program they developed.

The Team’s work over the summer was sponsored with major funding by the Salem Hospital Foundation. Additional funding came from Salem Hospital, the Mid-Willamette Education Consortium, the Oregon Department of Education, and Silverton Hospital.
