This department is comprised of two nursing units that offer critical patient care.
Scope of Patient Care
Critical care nursing in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is provided for inpatients and observation patients, and includes nursing assessments, reassessments, monitoring, nursing interventions, patient and family education, and discharge planning.
Department Duties
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU):
- The ICU is equipped for trauma, cardio-vascular, neuro patients, and patients with multiple organ failure.
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU):
- The PCU provides telemetry/critical step-down care for multiple patients.
- Care and services are provided for the following specialties:
- Cardiac (CV surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Trauma, Pulmonary, Renal Endocrinology, General & Vascular Surgery)
- Rapid Response Team
- Limited Pediatrics

- Nurse Manager
- Assistant Nurse Manager
- Registered Staff Nurses
- Unit Clerk
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Educational/Skill Requirements
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Completion of Critical Care and Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation Course
- Hemodynamically Credentialed
