This department offers an inpatient and outpatient diabetes education service to all age levels.
Scope of Patient Care
Inpatient Services: Provide instruction to newly-diagnosed patients, or reinforce specific topics or skills.
Outpatient Services: Education available to children and adults with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes.
Department Duties
- The educator and patient initially develop an individual education plan based on the priorities identified during the initial and preprogram assessment.
- Additional individual instruction is provided until the patient is competent with the instructions.
- Routine follow-up is provided post completion of the program.

- Clinical Supervisor
- Nurse Educators
- Dietitians
- Nutrition Services Manager
- Endocrinologists, nurse educators, dietitians, ophthalmologist, podiatrist and a pharmacist provide classroom instruction.
Educational/Skill Requirements
- Graduate of an approved nursing program.
- Special training in diabetes and education principles.
- Certified Educators.
