This department offers an inpatient and outpatient diabetes education service to all age levels.

Scope of Patient Care 
Inpatient Services:  Provide instruction to newly-diagnosed patients, or reinforce specific topics or skills.

Outpatient Services:  Education available to children and adults with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes.

Department Duties

• The educator and patient initially develop an individual education plan based on the priorities identified during the initial and preprogram assessment. 
• Additional individual instruction is provided until the patient is competent with the instructions.
• Routine follow-up is provided post completion of the program. 

Department Professionals

• Clinical Supervisor
• Nurse Educators
• Dietitians
• Nutrition Services Manager
• Endocrinologists, nurse educators, dietitians, ophthalmologist, podiatrist and a pharmacist provide classroom instruction.

Educational/Skill Requirements

• Graduate of an approved nursing program.
• Special training in diabetes and education principles.
• Certified Educators.
