This department is responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care to a broad range of patient services through the full continuum of care.
Scope of Patient Care
Pharmaceutical Care services are medication related, and are designed to meet the needs of the patient.
Department Duties
- Dispense medications and intravenous (IV) solutions/supplies in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
- Participate in the decisions about medication use for individual patients.
- Provide care for patients in all phase of development (i.e. newborn, adolescent, elderly, etc.).
- Provide guidance and input to insure the development, coordination, and review of all professional standards, procedures, policies, protocols, and controls relation to procurement, storage, dispensing, and safe use of medications, IV solutions/supplies, and provision of therapy associated with these products and levels of care.

Educational/Skill Requirements
- Pharmacists: Licensed by the Oregon Board of Pharmacy. Obtain a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Nurses: Licensed by the Oregon Board of Nursing with training and experience associated with intravenous therapy and direct patient care. Obtain an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree to be eligible for license.
- Technical/Clerical: Completed basic educational requirements and are trained to assist the pharmacists and nurses within the department in distribution and logistical activities to meet the patient service requirements. Required to complete on-site training consistent with their duties and must be registered with the Oregon Board of Pharmacy.
