Benefits of Participating in Clinical Research

Clinical trial benefits
A new treatment may prove to be better than standard treatment.
A nurse trained in clinical research carefully monitors each patient on an individual basis.
In some studies, investigational medication is provided free of charge.
Participation allows patients to take an active role in their care while contributing to medical science, which helps the treatment of future patients.

Salem Hospital has one of the most active cancer research programs in Oregon. In fact, the Clinical Research Department at Salem Hospital offers as many oncology clinical trials as large university-based teaching hospitals.

For those patients who wish to participate, this local resource provides them access to the latest clinical trials while remaining close to home and under the care of their local Cancer Specialists.

Patients may participate in Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU) or Pharmaceutical Studies without ever leaving the Marion and Polk communities.

The Clinical Research Department at Salem Hospital is dedicated to furthering the local, state, and national effort for the advancement of patient care.

Talk with your physician if you think you may be interested in finding out more about Clinical Research or call the Salem Hospital Clinical Research Department at (503) 561-2618. We look forward to assisting you.
