Critical Care Unit and Intensive Care Unit

Salem Hospital Cricial Care unit is designed to provide intensive nursing attention to patients who are seriously ill, injured or suffering from complex medical conditions.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 29 beds, and provides monitoring and support that is not available in other areas of the hospital. We use specialized high-tech equipment to assist with monitoring our patients.

Salem Hospital’s intensive care unit is the first ICU in Oregon to earn the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, an award given by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and specifically designated to recognize the nation’s top hospital critical-care units.

Critical-care units that receive the Beacon Award have exhibited high quality standards, exceptional care of patients and their families, and healthy work environments.

Waiting Room
Salem Hospital Intesive Care Unit has a waiting room direclty accross from the ICU on the third flood. There are vending machines located in the ICU Waiting Room. Cold drinks, coffee and snacks are available.

Visitor Information

The main entrance to the hospital and skybridge are open from 5 am to 8:30 pm.

The encouragement patients receive from visitors is important to the recovery process, so we want to be as flexible as possible with visiting hours. We must, however, balance the benefits of visitors with the patient’s need for rest.

Spiritual, emotional and physical support for families is available through the Chaplain’s office or the Social Service department.
