Emergency Department
Salem Hospital has the state's busiest Emergency Department, which served more than 65,000 people last year.

Our Emergency Department is staffed around the clock and prepared to handle all medical emergencies, including major traumas.

If it is not an emergency

For minor illnesses and injuries you can come to Salem Hospital's Urgent Care Center.

The following lists types of minor injuries or illnesses that can be treated in the Urgent Care Center:

  • Upper respiratory/sinus infections
  • Sprains
  • Simple fractures of extremities only
  • Sore throat
  • Back pain (ambulatory)
  • Asthma (mild)
  • Minor work injury (first time)
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Fever
  • Ear pain
  • Lacerations (simple)
  • Gastrointestinal-mild (diarrhea)

More serious symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath or stroke symptoms need to be treated in the Emergency Department.
