Grants total more than $280,000 in 2005

Each year thousands of people give to Salem Hospital. Some contribute by volunteering. Others provide leadership on one of the hospital boards. And many choose to donate money to the Salem Hospital Foundation in support of a program or service, or in memory of a friend or family member.

For 39 years, the Foundation has put your contributions to work providing education, equipment, and services to Salem Hospital patients, as well as to community members.

Last year the Foundation granted more than $280,000 to various projects, including:

• Scholarships to students pursuing medical or medically related careers: $122,600
• Hospital equipment and program enhancement: $75,613
• Financial assistance for patients in need: $45,669
• Hospital staff education and recognition: $19,441
• Athletic-trainer program in area high schools: $10,000
• Community and patient education: $6,085
• Infant and child safety-seat program: $3,500
