Project timeline

A project of this size requires careful planning. We are well under way, but we also have a lot left to do. Here’s a synopsis of what we’ve done and what’s coming.

Planning timelines

Completed: Master site plan
The master facility plan was completed in late 2004, during which time we selected the site for the new building and determined, in general terms, how much space we’ll need in the future. We also began work to finance the project, which continues throughout all phases.

Completed: Facility programming
We pulled together the best information possible on who we think will need our services in the future and what type of healthcare they’ll need, as well as projections on how healthcare services will function and the space requirements needed. From there we identified which services should reside in which building and how those services will work together.

We also conducted focus groups with recent patients and family members to learn their needs and desires in areas such as traveling through the campus, locating buildings or services, location and size of waiting rooms, and parking.

Completed: Schematic design
In this step, we worked with a set of drawings, arranging and rearranging rooms with the expert guidance of the architects, who have extensive experience in healthcare design.

In progress: Design development (Oct. 2005–Feb. 2006)
Schematic designs are being further refined, the end result of which will be the detailed outfitting of each individual space in the new tower.

Next: Construction document development (Feb.–Nov. 2006)
During this phase the architects will develop the detailed blueprints that will guide the construction company and subcontractors in building the new patient tower.

Construction timelines

Completed: Initial demolition
•   The old Bush School and two other buildings were demolished to make way for new
     surface parking.

In progress
•   The new central energy plant construction has begun.
•   The new surface-parking lot is being constructed.

Next
•   Demolition of the visitor parking structure begins in spring 2006, after the surface-parking
     lot is ready for use.
•   Construction of the new tower begins in Dec. 2006.
•   New tower opens Jan. 2009.
