A community gathering spot
The Salem Health Cancer Institute is more than a cancer center. It is a gathering spot that provides a unique experience for our community in a welcoming, restorative environment. You’ll find all this and more on the main floor of Salem Hospital Building C.
Open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
It’s not a health food place—it’s a place where healthy food tastes great! The menu of salads, sandwiches, smoothies and desserts is cancer-friendly, beautiful, tasty and nutritious. Foods have been selected because they are rich sources of antioxidants, phytochemicals, whole grains, heart-healthy nuts, seeds, herbs and spices as well as good sources of protein, a key nutrient for our cancer patients. When possible, seasonal, locally sourced, organic foods will be used in addition to preservative-free meats.
Open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Salem Health retail pharmacy does more than just fill your prescription. We have most common over-the-counter medicines in both brand-name and generic forms, as well as meal replacement, first-aid and home medical supplies.
Saffron’s Specialized Medical
Open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saffron’s has created a unique shopping environment where you can experience comfort and peace of mind, assisted by their specially trained and medically certified fitters—in private, spacious fitting rooms. They offer high-quality mastectomy bras, breast forms, lymphedema garments, medical compression stockings and gloves, wigs, head scarves and more. Visit their web site or call them at 503-339-7094.
Local cancer survivors have the opportunity to display their creative talents in the lobby of the Cancer Institute (Salem Hospital Building C). We are on the lookout for paintings, sculpture, photography, poetry, pottery, glasswork, fiber arts—almost anything that shows how our survivors are thriving! If you know a cancer survivor with a creative side who would like to share their work, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 503-562-4321.
Start a journal, knit a sweater or just enjoy the peace. We have baskets of materials if you’re feeling creative, and books and games to keep you and your visitors entertained. This space also plays host to classes that foster creativity and healing—painting, scrapbooking, journaling, doll-making and more.
Touchscreens and computers
Need inspiration? Touchscreens throughout the Cancer Institute have writing prompts, tips and games. Plus, there are public computer stations where you can research cancer and wellness, connect with Salem Health on social media, or just relax and surf the web.
