All support groups are held on a drop-in basis and located on the Salem Health campus unless otherwise noted. Please call the Community Health Education Center (CHEC) at 503-814-2432 for current dates and to register.
Lymphedema management for breast cancer
This one-time class covers the management of lymphedema including: signs and symptoms, prevention and skin care tips, and treatment options and techniques. No cost. Class held at the Salem Health Rehabilitation Center, 755 Mission St. SE.

Thriving and Surviving Cancer Workshop
six week workshop is designed to help cancer survivors to live more active and fulfilling lives. This workshop provides information and practical tools to help individuals self-manage symptoms, challenges and day-to-day tasks in small supportive classes. Refreshments provided!
Learn how to:
- Manage stress and improve the ability to relax
- Fight fatigue and frustration
- Eat better and exercise safely
- Control pain and improve activity
- Talk to your doctor and family about your health
- Solve problems and get the support you need
Dates: One day a week for 6 consecutive weeks. The start date will be determined based on interest. We must have at least six participants to hold the workshop. Please contact us to register and learn more about the next start date.

Breast Cancer Support Group
Second and Fourth Wednesdays 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Gynecologic Cancer Support Group
First Tuesday of each month, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Salem Hospital Building C, first floor lobby
Meet with other women facing a gynecologic cancer to share and receive support. Facilitated by volunteer Debi Chrowl, an ovarian cancer survivor. If you are unable to attend in person, you can join the private Facebook group NW Teal Warriors. Email Debi at NWTealWarriors@gmail.com to learn more.
Knit Well Support Group
Third Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m.

A unique way to cope with the stress of cancer and other life obstacles. Join us to knit, crochet and share. All are welcome and group members are willing to teach.

Prostate Cancer Support Group
Third Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m.

An opportunity to meet other men living with prostate cancer, ask questions, receive support, and get the resources you need.
Spouses/partners welcome and encouraged to attend.
Facilitated by volunteers Ed and Marcy Kuenzi, who started this group over 20 years ago.
Women’s Metastatic Cancer Support Group
First and third Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to noon
Salem Hospital Building D, first floor, Gerlinger Support Group Room
Salem Cancer Institute now offers a support group for women living with advanced stage cancer. The group provides an opportunity to meet with others facing a similar diagnosis and share everyday challenges.
Facilitated by certified oncology and breast care nurses Liz Colwell and Kathy Wolfe.

Arts and exercise
Survivor Artist Showcase
Cancer survivors are invited to share your artwork in a special display in the Cancer Institute lobby. Painting, photography, poetry pottery, glasswork…you tell us!
Displays rotate every 8 weeks and brighten our lobby with a sense of hope, healing, and inspiration for patients, visitors and staff. Please let us know if you are an artist or have creative work you’d like to share. Artists will also be considered whose work has been inspired by a cancer survivor. RISE cancer fitness program
RISE (recovery in strength and exercise) is a four-week exercise program for people experiencing fatigue and loss of strength that can result from cancer treatment.
The focus is on rebuilding strength with weights while offering the support of a small group setting. This class also includes targeted exercise for balance and flexibility along with relaxation techniques. Please call the Salem Health Community Health Education Center at 503-814-2432 to learn more.

Relax with gentle yoga for any skill level. Please bring your own yoga mat and wear loose comfortable clothing. Led by Ivan Fernandez, yoga instructor.
