Radiation safety and dose reduction

For the radiologist to make an accurate diagnosis of your condition, an imaging study using radiation (X-rays) or radioactive materials may be necessary. Most exams carry a very low risk from radiation, and the benefit of having the procedure outweighs the very small risks associated with radiation exposure.

Salem Health thinks seriously about choosing the appropriate exam to diagnose your condition in the most effective and safest method. Whether you are having an X-ray procedure or a procedure where you are administered radioactive materials, you can rest assured that your safety and comfort are our priority.

Expertise and dose-reduction technology

Salem Health is dedicated to providing high-quality imaging at the lowest possible radiation dose to the patient. We have certified technologists, a staff diagnostic physicist, and American Board of Radiology certified radiologists.

We maintain our equipment at the highest standards to minimize the chance of exposing ourselves or our patients to radioactive materials. We are accredited by the American College of Radiology in CT, nuclear medicine, PET, mammography, and breast ultrasound. We are currently in the process of obtaining accreditation for our MRI scanners.

Salem Health is part of the Image Gently program focused on dose-reduction strategies and practices for children.
