If you have private insurance
We will bill your insurance company for your hospital stay provided that we have the necessary information.
Please bring your insurance card with you. Most insurance companies have certain requirements that must be met before they will pay your bill, such as:
- Some must authorize your stay prior to your admission. If this is not done by you or your physician, there may be a reduction in your benefits.
- Most require that you add your baby to the policy within 30 days of birth.
- Many require that you are treated only by a “participating provider.” Check with your health care provider.
It’s a good idea to call your insurance company early in your pregnancy to find out about their specific requirements and to discuss covered benefits in your policy.
All hospital bills are due and payable 90 days from discharge, regardless of whether your insurance has paid. You may make other arrangements by calling a Salem Health financial counselor at 503-814-4616.
If you don’t have insurance
If you are pregnant and do not have insurance, contact Oregon MothersCare at Salem Health at 503-562-4092. We will help you enroll in the Oregon Health Plan or another insurance, if eligible, and help you find prenatal care if needed.
If you are a member of the Oregon Health Plan
Your baby has automatic coverage under your grant. However, you must add the baby to your grant within 30 days.
Contact your caseworker as soon as possible after discharge. You are responsible for the baby’s bill until eligibility is confirmed.
