Labor and delivery

Giving birth is an unforgettable experience for the entire family. (Except maybe the latest addition!) At Salem Health, we want to make sure that all your needs are met for this exciting time in your life. It’s important that you know what you can expect upon your arrival to the Salem Health Family Birth Center.

Signs of labor

While there’s really no way to predict when you will go into labor, it’s important to know what signs you can expect from your body at the onset of labor.

What to bring

As a new parent, there will be a few extra items you will want to have with you while at the hospital.

Care during delivery

At Salem Health, we feel it’s an absolute privilege to care for the moms and dads who choose us to be part of such an exciting time in their lives.

What about VBACs?

Discuss the possibility with your health care provider and learn about some of the criteria so that you can make an informed decision about the option of vaginal birth after cesarean.

Mother-baby care

After delivery, you will be together with your baby and your support person in the comfort of your own private and secure room in the mother-baby unit located on the fourth floor of the Salem Health Family Birth Center.

Visitors at birth

We encourage you to have a support person to share the birth experience with. Some expecting mothers plan to have additional family or friends present during the labor and birth.
