Morbid obesity - What it is
The National Institute of Health (NIH) defined morbid obesity as a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 40. Body mass index of 35 – 40 can also be considered morbidly obese if other obesity-related diseases exist.
This is roughly equivalent to 100 pounds of excess body weight in a male and 80 pounds of excess body weight in a female.
