Bariatric surgery - Preparing for surgery

In accordance with the 1991 National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommendations, appropriate preoperative consultation is undertaken to improve your chances for success. These include:

Bariatric Survey Center Patient Questionnaire. After your complete this questionnaire, a surgical consultation will be scheduled.

Medical Evaluations. Following your surgical consultation, appropriate medical evaluations will be ordered.  These include tests for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and significant respiratory problems.

Psychological consultation. To assess readiness and problem solve any circumstances that may impede recovery. This is done prior to surgery.

Preoperative nutrition consultation and fitness evaluation. A nutrition evaluation with our register dietitian. A fitness assessment by our exercise specialist.
