Patient Rights

There are certain things that a patient can count on when they come to the hospital.

The hospital has outlined patient rights to assure proper service is provided to meet all our patients’ needs. 

All patients have the right to:

  • Have trust and respect.
  • Have religious beliefs respected.
  • Have the privacy of their bodies maintained.
  • Have confidentiality protected.
  • Have a safe area free from abuse or harassment.
  • Know who is caring for them and their title.
  • Have pain assessed and managed. 
  • Be free from any restraints that are not medically necessary.
  • Have access to hospital information regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
  • Be fully informed by the doctor of treatment and care before consenting to procedures.
  • Have themselves, family and/or a legal representative involved with all aspects of care.
  • Have a family member and their own physician notified promptly of their hospital admission.
  • Have access to people outside the hospital and to interpreter services.
  • Have consultation with specialists at their own request and expense.
  • Refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law.
  • Have certain conditions met prior to transfer to another facility.
  • Request and receive an explanation of the hospital bill.
  • Have information regarding hospital rules and regulations.
  • Have assistance with an advance directive from a hospital representative.
  • Have protection from agencies or individuals who may want to interview or observe them.
  • Voluntarily participate in clinical training programs, such as for nursing students in training.
