Neurodiagnostic Lab

The Neurodiagnostic Lab is responsible for testing and monitoring neurophysiological signals generated by the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to aid in the diagnosis of neurological and/or psychological abnormalities and disorders.

Procedures performed

• Electroencephalograph (EEG)
• Visual Evoked Potential (VEP)
• Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAER)
• Somatosensory Evoked Potential (SEP)

Outpatient testing is done within the department and, with ambulatory EEG equipment, in the patient’s home. Inpatient testing is done in various hospital settings such as the ICU and surgery.

Studies usually last from 90 minutes to two hours although some can continue for several days, depending on the diagnosis.

A neurologist interprets studies performed within the department.

Procedures performed will conform to the national guidelines established by the American Society of Electrographic Technology (ASET).
