Design at the heart of an advanced facility
From state-of-the-art interventional suites for surgery to expanded emergency rooms and imaging areas, research and the latest technology placed a critical role in designing the new patient care tower at Salem Hospital.

Some outstanding features of the new patient-care tower include the following:
ER. The emergency department has expanded to 54 patient rooms (up from 45 rooms now). New features include additional space for treatment of critical care and trauma patients, an elevator from the roof helipad to the ER, and a dedicated elevator from the ER directly to surgery and cath lab rooms.
Imaging. Conveniently located next to the elevator from underground outpatient parking, the new imaging area offers additional diagnostic equipment in all categories, as well as a permanent PET/CT scanner.
Surgery and Cath Lab
Spacious interventional suites offer ceiling mounted equipment that is easily moved to its needed location, additional monitors to provide multiple views of surgical progress, and enough room to install new equipment as medical advances are made.
Heart care
The new cardiovascular care unit provides a “recover in place” experience for heart patients, allowing them to have their healthcare needs met in a single spacious room instead of moving to different areas of the hospital during recovery.
Bariatrics
The building includes accommodations for patients weighing up to 1000 pounds. These include lifts installed on all inpatient units to help move patients, as well as specially designed beds, bathroom facilities and furniture.
