Circumcision care

If your baby boy has been circumcised, gently wash the penis and scrotum. If a plastibell was used for the circumcision, the plastibell will slip off between five and eight days.

No special dressing is needed and your baby may be diapered and bathed as he was before he was circumcised. If a gomco was used, continue to apply the petroleum jelly and gauze to the tip of the penis to keep it from sticking to the diaper until the area is healed.

Pour warm water on the gauze if needed to gently remove. To wash, gently pour warm water over the penis. Healing tissue layers should not be washed off. It takes five to 10 days to heal.
