Hiccups

It is normal for babies to hiccup. You can try burping, or putting baby to breast, but nothing needs to be done.

Spitting Up

Most often spitting up is caused by milk coming up with a burp. A newborn’s digestive system is immature and the muscles between the esophagus and the stomach may not be well coordinated.

Spitting up should lessen as your baby gets older. Most times your baby can clear her own throat. If she is really distressed and appears to need help, you can use the bulb syringe or nasal aspirator.
