Burping

Even though breastfed babies do not usually swallow much air, you may wish to try and burp your child between feedings, and at the end of the feeding.

Positions to try:

  1. Hold the baby upright over your shoulder.
  2. Lay the baby face down on your lap with head turned to one side.
  3. Sit the baby on your lap so she is leaning slightly forward, supporting her head and chest with your hand.

In the position that works best for you, gently rub or pat her back. Sometimes simply changing the child’s position will coax a burp.
