Plugged ducts

Tender lumps in mother’s breast may be due to a blockage in a milk duct. Continue to nurse baby frequently. Nursing on the affected breast promotes adequate emptying.

To encourage breast milk to drain and to help the plug move through the duct, apply warm heat with a wet cloth a few minutes before feeding baby.

Gently massage the area while baby feeds. If these efforts are successful, the lump will disappear.
