To Mothers on the Women, Infants & Children Program (WIC)

The WIC program supports breastfeeding as the “Gold Star” standard for feeding your baby, but if a mother needs formula, the WIC program currently provides Similac Advanced because they have a contract with Ross Laboratories. WIC uses the same formula as Salem Hospital, so there will be no formula transition necessary for your newborn.

In a community partnership between Salem Hospital and the Marion County WIC program, a WIC office is located on the fourth floor in the Mother Baby Care Unit.

Breastfeeding Supplies

The main purpose of the WIC office is to provide breastfeeding assistance and supplies to mothers who need them including the issuance of breast pumps.

This office is also a point of sale for lactation supplies and rental breastpumps to the general public.

Notify the main WIC office when you have delivered your baby. Your baby is not eligible for formula from the WIC office until you and your baby are seen for a postpartum appointment at your main clinic site.

It is best if you get on the WIC program during your pregnancy. WIC serves pregnant women as a top priority. Good nutrition is a great way to help support new moms to feel their best and have a healthy baby.

The WIC office at Salem Hospital is open from 10 a.m.– noon and 1–3 p.m. Monday–Fridays, except holidays. Call 503-562-4111 to schedule an appointment to rent or purchase breastfeeding supplies.
