Car Seat Assistance Program
Important!
Call 503-814-2432 to make an appointment to purchase a low cost seat.
If you need help to purchase a car seat, we may be able to help. You will need to provide income eligibility (OHP, WIC, OTC) and there is a $30 co-pay for a new seat. Spanish speaking staff available. Se habla español.
To be eligible the parent/guardian must provide income eligibility, such as WIC, OHP or Oregon Trail card, and currently need a new car seat as determined at a car seat safety check.
The cost of the seats are $30 each. This must be paid in advance in order to reserve a seat. Bring payment to the Community Health Education Center on the first floor of the Family Birth Center at Salem Hospital.
The cost of a "no-back" booster seat is $10. You will need to show your (or your child's) WIC, OHP, or Oregon Trail card when you schedule your appointment for eligibility verification.
Seats are available once a month, by appointment, during the Car Seat Safety Clinics, the third Saturday of each month from 11 - 3 p.m. This event is held in various locations in Salem, Keizer, and Independence.
Seats are only provided to parents or legal guardians, who must be present to obtain the seat. Only one seat per child.
The child receiving the seat must be present unless the baby is not yet born.
The vehicle in which the child travels must be brought to the car seat check.
Parents or guardians will be taught to correctly install and use the car seat.
