When to seek medical advice

Consult your medical professional and request a consultation with a Sleep Medicine Specialist if you or your partner observes the any of the following:

  • Loud snoring
  • Choking or gasping that awakens you from sleep
  • Intermittent pauses in your breathing during sleep
  • Excessive daytime drowsiness, which may cause you to fall asleep while you’re working, watching television or even driving.
  • Morning headaches
  • If you feel tired after awakening from sleep
  • Legs, kicking or jerking during sleep
  • Inability to go to sleep or stay asleep

Many people don’t think snoring as a sign of something potentially serious and not everyone with Obstructive Sleep Apnea snores.

Be sure to talk to your doctor if you experience loud snoring, especially if you also have pauses in your breathing during sleep.

Ask your doctor about any sleep problems that leaves you frequently tired, sleepy and irritable.

Excessive daytime drowsiness (Hypersomnia) maybe due to other sleep disorders, such as Narcolepsy.
