Travel and Immunization Service Notice

The Salem Hospital travel and immunization center based at SHAPES will close effective May 30, 2008. As the hospital continues exploring how best to provide healthcare to people in the community, this small program was identified as one that could be offered by other providers and did not need to be part of the hospital’s core services.

Patients currently receiving travel and immunization therapies will be able to complete those, but no new patients will be accepted into the service.

Travel and immunization services will continue to be available to the Salem community by John Girod, M.D. Dr. Girod is very experienced in the travel and immunization business. He was the acting medical director of the hospital’s travel and immunization service for eight years has been involved with the hospital’s program for 13 years. Dr. Girod’s phone number is 503-540-9999.

Routine immunizations are currently available from at least three Salem-area pharmacies; Safeway (Lancaster) 503-391-6482, Fred Meyer (Commercial) 503-585-3533, and Rite-Aid (Keizer) 503-393-8973. These pharmacies can provide immunizations without a physician order and can bill Medicare Part D. Appointments for immunization services are preferred.
