Volunteer Application Process

To find out more about hospital volunteering please attend an information session.  Sessions are held monthly.  At the information session you will find out how to apply to serve at the hospital.  All volunteers will have a personal interview with the manager or assistant to determine placement eligibility.

  • Attend volunteer information session
  • Complete volunteer application or on-line application for students and adults exploring careers
  • Schedule and attend volunteer interview
  • Attend hospital employee/volunteer orientation.  Training covers the following:
    • Salem Hospital & West Valley Hospital Mission, Vision and Values
    • Corporate Integrity
    • Community Outreach/Customer Service
    • Lunch with your manager or volunteer staff
    • Mandatory Education
    • Infection Control
    • Cultural Competency
  • Complete health assessment with our Employee Health Department (TB testing, Hep-B, etc.)
  • Receive assigned volunteer placement – possible interview with department lead
  • Issued a volunteer security photo ID and parking permit
  • Orientation for completing hours accurately

Volunteer applicants over 18 will be expected to pass a national criminal background check.  All applicants will be carefully screened, processed and placed in appropriate assignments.  Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.  All volunteers are expected to adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
